This is a drum machine powered by logic gates interacting with signals from pulsing clocks. The interface consists of three main components:
- Clocks: Four clock generators with adjustable BPM
- Logic Gates: Four configurable logic gates (AND, NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, XNOR, NOT)
- Instruments: Four sound outputs (kick, snare, hihat, clap)
Connect and modify them to make crazy rhythms!
This tool was designed in Fall of 2019 and finally coded in Spring of 2025 (lol) by Maxwell Neely-Cohen. You can see the initial sketch (done in photoshop lol) here, with a fancy MS-DOS-style GUI (that has not yet been implemented).
It was inspired by the genius live coding tool ORCA, the wonderful work of CW&T, and some extremely niche ways to use modular synthesizers.
The sounds were designed and recorded from a Vermona DRM1 MKIII analog drum synthesizer.
It is the first of the 10,000 Drum Machines project.
